Depends - If we're talking around our house, then it's shortly before the guests show up (one to two days), and then it comes back down the day they leave (when they're gone, obviously) - that's the tradition from D's parents, and one I happen to like. Get it up, do the hooplah, then put it away.
If it's my parents, the stuff goes up the week before Christmas, and stays up until the week after New Year's. Never quite understood why - something about 12 nights - but I always attributed it to just too much other stuff going on to deal with when you've got house-guests staying over the holidays.
I don't decorate at all. My cat gets into anything he's not used to and it kills the Christmas spirit for me to come home each day and clean up the mess he has made. I finally gave up on keeping anything out. I might light a Christmas themed candle or two and put out something a little festive on the actual day of our gift exchange and then it's cleaned up with the wrapping paper. And I should point out, I'm not a scrooge.
Brian almost had it right--we do take it down either Christmas Day or the day after, but this year, because we've got so much new stuff, we're beginning to put everything up next weekend (Dec. 8 or so). That way we can do a little at a time and we're not rushing around at the end.
Thanks for stopping by! Answer any question you like, however you like. Hopefully we'll learn a little bit about ourselves and a lot about each other. Happy answering!

First weekend in December-always, always, always. Although, I've got the Advent Calendar out on December 1.
Usually take it all down the week between Christmas and New Year's Day. I want it all gone before I wake up with my annual New Year's Day hangover.

Usually the week after Thanksgiving, but we are a litle behind schedule this year.
